Welcome to the Pupil and School Support course on the impact of motor skills on maths.
This short course gives information about barriers to learning and difficulties which pupils with motor skills needs may often present with and gives some tips on what teachers should look out for in the classroom. The course is aimed at teaching assistants, class teachers and SENCOs.
During the course we will consider some ways to support pupils who struggle to use physical resources successfully in maths. The course aims to build your knowledge and confidence around making such resources accessible and equip you with some strategies you may wish to try in your setting. It is just a beginning to considering the interplay between the physical manipulation of objects and the building of mathematical concepts.
At the end of the course you are encouraged to choose some of the suggested strategies and implement them within your practice. A frame has been designed to help you reflect on this process.
