Developing the role of the EAL Co-ordinator (Training)

Full Day Course

A full day centre-based session aimed at new and more experienced EAL Co-ordinators, giving the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the process of identification, assessment and tracking to fulfil the graduated approach.

Course Structure:

This will include support with induction, identification of EAL and the pupil’s primary needs, using assessments to support initial language targets and tracking progress. There will also be generic strategies for supporting speaking and listening, reading and writing.

Course participants will also be provided with an intervention pack to support the teaching and learning of initial key vocabulary in school, as part of the PSS EAL Toolkit.

Outcomes:

To evaluate current school systems for induction, assessment and tracking of EAL learners.

To develop whole monitoring systems for EAL provision.

Raising awareness of some strategies and resources that can be used for EAL learners.

Participants will be provided with the PSS EAL Toolkit, at a reduced price, which includes:

  • Assessment Pack
  • Vocabulary Intervention Pack
