On Autism Acceptance Week, Adam Wharton shares this blog post with us:
Autistic people are unique individuals like everyone else, and just like everyone else we have unique strengths and things we struggle with.
Get to know us, learn what we like/don’t like, don’t just treat us all the same autism isn’t just a label it’s something that defines the way we live. Those with autism may struggle with tasks neurotypicals consider simple but if helped to navigate these challenges and when engaging with their special interest they will soar.
While social skills and conventions may not be our strengths our unique way of thinking means we can be ace problem solvers, bringing perspectives neurotypicals might not think of.
Autists are as individual as everyone else.
Boxes are for chocolates not Autists.
