Celebrating Autism Acceptance Week 28th March – 3rd April

At the Communication and Autism Team, we celebrate autism acceptance every day. We have the privilege of working with children and young people, parents and carers, and school staff, and our aim is to enable the child or young person to have a positive educational experience.

Talking with an autistic young person today, he said that he feels that there is a “surface awareness” of autism in society as a whole. It is important to strive for more than this if autistic people are to be fully understood and enabled to live their lives to the full.

We all have a part to play in improving our understanding of autism. We can do this by listening to the voice of autistic children, young people and adults. We then need to actively include autistic people in all aspects of community life.
