This is now a free resource for schools and settings, but please note it has not been updated recently. The EAL Toolkit currently includes:

Induction Pack – incorporating a range of visual resources, top tips for staff on good practice, signposting for parents, Pupil Information Form.

Assessment Pack – includes an Induction Flowchart, pupil information Form, EAL Assessment Profile, EAL Assessment Reference Guide, Newly Arrived Pupil Initial Assessment.

Vocabulary Pack – Intervention activities /schemes of work to support the development of vocabulary around targeted subject areas with pupils, e.g. colours, my family and I, number, greetings, school.  This will include entry and exit assessment criteria so that progress within modules can be tracked.

Assessment Exemplification Materials – a comprehensive set of examples of pupil’s work covering speaking, listening, reading and writing for KS1, 2 and 3 for those pupils working at Proficiency In English levels C and D, to support EAL co-ordinators in the moderation of assessment. ILP Creator – EAL Individual Language Plan Creator.

NEW: Revised High-Quality Teaching and Learning Ideas for EAL learners – The previous Quality First Teaching strategies guidance has been updated with High-Quality Teaching and Learning ideas which are in line with the codes schools are now using to record their EAL pupils proficiency in English.

New: New ILP Creators! – Two newly-designed Individual Language Plan (ILP) Creators are now available in line with the updated assessment profiles. The new ITP creators offer a quicker and more effective way to create and update plans. Download them from the documents below.
